 Elaine writes "Club Murcia were recently invited to the new Thalasso Centre, located next to Las Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar on the shores of the Mediterranean. The Centre creates a unique Spa experience with a range of Hydrotherapy, Physiotherapy and Marine Treatments.
 With sea water swimming pools and jacuzzis and the excellent ´Marine Circuit´ (pictured right) we enjoyed the many benefits on offer at the new Thalasso Centre. Thalassotherapy, which originated in the 19th century, creates the right balance between mind, body and nature.
Seawater contains more than 80 fundamental elements and special ionic concentrations, and its high density stimulates blood pressure, and relaxes muscle. The regions seawater contains algae, iodine, salts and marine essences, and add to that the Mar Menor Muds with their therapeutic properties and you have an exceptional natural oasis. The therapeutic properties of the muds are well-known since the days of Hypocrates (460-337 B.C.) when they used to recommend them in their treatments as he considered that the mineral ions were basic for human health.
What is Thalassotherapy?
"Thalassotherapy is the simultaneous use of elements from the Marine universe under medical control to cure or prevent diseases: climate, seawater, marine mud, seaweed and other substances extracted from the sea". International Federation of Thalassotherapy.
 Thalasia has more than 4,500 square metres of marine universe: 447 square metres of 34ºC seawater pools with different underwater massages, jacuzzis, waterbeds and cascades. There are rehabilitation swimming pools, aquatic fitness pools and a 24-25ºC outside swimming pool with terrace.
There is also a fitness and personal training area, a cafeteria with views over the lagoon and a large range of Relaxation, Beauty and Wellness programmes.
Thalasia has a Medical Team that specialises in Medical Hydrology. Specialists in the use of seawater for therapeutic purposes. The types of equipment available are: Mechanotherapy, Thermotherapy, Laser Therapy, Ultrasound.
