Camposol(Sensol Golf) Gets Pat on the Back

I have, in the past criticised Camposol Golf Club, accusing it of being poor value for money. After today, I fear that I have to 'eat some humble pie'

Fuente Old Guard Golf Society had it's first 'major' competition at Camposol on 30 November 2006 and feedback from the members was very complimentary.

Not only did Camposol let us book tee times nearly a month in advance but we also paid reduced green fees! These benefits up til now, were unheard of at this course. Well done and thank you.

The new nine holes were excellent and a real test of everyone's golfing skills. The 10th hole is quite majestic and must rank as the signature hole for the couse. It was a great shame that the water in the lake had dissappeared, due apparently to silting up and a lack of water in the resevoir to replenish it!

If you don't have a buggy there are a lot of climbs to reach tees and some of the greens. Not for the unfit amongst you!

The views are stunning and you would not know that the 'Camposol Sprawl ' was so closeby.

The fairway through the pine forest on the 12th is particularly tricky if you are not straight off the tee. The fairway dissappears over a hill and unless you have played the hole before, it's a real 'shot in the dark' Camposol management - Can a bell or a gong be placed just over the brow so that golfers can let those behind on the tee know that they are out of range?

The par 3 thirteenth is a great short hole - unless you miss the green. If you do you can kiss goodbye to your par.

The approach shot to the green at the 17th is particularly tight. You have to clear a deep, meandering, rambla containing what look like enormous ant hills.( If you have seen Cappadocia in Turkey you will know what I mean) Many, many golf balls have met their fate in this rambla. Its too deep to even try to retrieve them!

Camposol need to get their act together with distance markers and 'hole planners' on the tees of the back nine. One or two holes were also a bit wet in places and there were some bare patches here and there but they will not spoil your enjoyment of the course. Course maintenance needs a little improvement in places as well.

In time, this course will be great, if it is maintained properly. Fuente Old Guard will return and it now represents better value for money and is a more challenging course than it's near neighbour, Hacienda Del Alamo.

Winner of the first FOG competition was Tony Roots with a stableford score of 26(reflecting just how tough the course was).

Bob Daffon won nearest the pin on the 5th and Graham Wilson won the longest drive on the 7th. Thanks to all of twenty-one members and guests that turned up.
